    Description

    Introduction:

    Playmakers is a non-profit organization which offers sports and recreational programs to kids and young adults with disabilities in Southern California. Today, we are staffed completely by volunteers, and offer 3 unique programs to over 150 kids and young adults per year.

    We are seeking to hire a Baseball Director for our Baseball program who will, in conjunction with Playmakers Operating Board, standardize and manage operations for Baseball. The spot is part-time, volunteer, and offers great exposure to our community.

    • Our mission: We will provide sports and enrichment programs for kids and adults with special needs in an adaptive facility/park built specifically for their community.
    • Our Vision: We are a volunteer led organization that encourages input from our families to guide us in the programs we offer. Through community outreach we will fund and build an adaptive park where these programs will take place.

    Duties / Responsibilities:

    • Program Development:
      • Collaborate with the program coordinator to design and implement baseball sessions that are tailored to the abilities and needs of participants with disabilities.
      • Create a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages skill development, teamwork, and enjoyment.
    • Instruction and Guidance:
      • Provide hands-on coaching during practice sessions, focusing on fundamental baseball skills, coordination, and physical fitness.
      • Adapt coaching techniques to accommodate various disabilities, ensuring an inclusive and accessible environment for all participants.
    • Player Engagement:
      • Foster a supportive and encouraging relationship with each participant, promoting self-confidence and a sense of achievement.
      • Emphasize teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play, reinforcing positive social interactions.
    • Communication:
      • Maintain open communication with participants, their families, and other volunteers to address individual needs and ensure a collaborative and positive experience.
      • Provide regular updates to the program coordinator on participant progress, challenges, and successes.
    • Safety and Well-being:
      • Prioritize the safety and well-being of all participants, implementing appropriate modifications to activities as needed.
      • Be aware of individual medical considerations and emergency procedures, with a commitment to creating a secure environment.

    Qualifications and Experiential Requirements

    • Previous experience coaching baseball or working with individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required.
    • Knowledge of adaptive coaching techniques and a willingness to learn and implement inclusive practices.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with participants of diverse abilities.
    • Patience, empathy, and a passion for promoting inclusivity and personal development.

    Relationships:

    • Reports to Athletic Director
    • Works closely with Directors of Fundraising, and Volunteer Coordinator, and Community Outreach

    Salary and benefits:

    • This is a volunteer position

    Work hours and work setting:

    • Flexible hours (approximately 8 hours per month on average)
    • Work from home and on site as needed
