Pennsylvania Institute of Technology — P.I.T. — is looking for interesting, thoughtful, community-minded people who want to get involved.

We are building a network of advisors, volunteers, Board committee members, and potential future Trustees.

First, a Little About Us

P.I.T. isn't your typical college.

And, frankly, we like it that way.

Founded in 1953, Pennsylvania Institute of Technology is an independent, nonprofit college in Media, Pennsylvania. Today, we serve approximately 1,000 students in career-focused programs across healthcare, nursing, behavioral health, business, technology, and other growing fields.

But the numbers only tell part of our story.

Nearly 80% of our students are Pell Grant recipients. Many are the first in their families to attend college. Many work while going to school. Many are raising children. Some are returning to a classroom after years away.

Our students come to us with talent, determination, and life experience.

What they are looking for is opportunity.

They're generally not coming to P.I.T. in search of ivy-covered buildings, football Saturdays, or four years of figuring out what they might want to do someday.

They come to us because they want a career. A promotion. A new direction. A better life for themselves and their families.

Our job is to help them get there.

We are small enough to know our students. Nimble enough to change. And ambitious enough to believe a nearly 75-year-old college can still reinvent itself.

Over the past several years, P.I.T. has grown, expanded its academic programs, invested significantly in its campus, and strengthened its role in the communities we serve.

And we're not done.

That's where you might come in.

Maybe You Have Ideas: Join the President's Advisory Committee

The President's Advisory Committee brings together professionals, community leaders, employers, alumni, and generally smart and interesting people who are willing to share ideas and perspective about P.I.T.'s future.

This isn't intended to be a ceremonial committee.

We want people who will tell us what they're seeing in their industries and communities.

People who will challenge our thinking.

People who can help us identify opportunities and make connections.

And people willing to occasionally ask, “Have you ever thought about...?”

Members serve as a sounding board for the President and College leadership and help ensure we remain connected to the world outside of higher education.

You don't need to speak fluent academia.

It may actually be better if you don't.

Maybe You Have a Few Hours: Volunteer With Us

Not everyone is looking for another committee.

We understand.

P.I.T. hosts a growing number of events on our campus and throughout the communities we serve, and we're building a network of people who simply want to help.

Volunteers may welcome students and families to campus, help with community events, support fundraisers and special programs, assist with outreach activities, or represent P.I.T. alongside our faculty and staff throughout the region.

One opportunity might be a few hours on a Saturday.

Another might be an evening on campus.

Or maybe you have an idea for a community event we haven't even considered yet.

You don't have to make a massive time commitment to make a meaningful contribution.

Sometimes we just need friendly, enthusiastic people who believe in what we're doing and aren't afraid to roll up their sleeves.

And we promise not to make every volunteer meeting a meeting about the next meeting.

Maybe You're Ready to Lead: Board & Board Committee Opportunities

P.I.T. is also interested in meeting people who could bring new perspectives and expertise to our Board of Trustees and its committees.

The College is in a period of significant growth and evolution. We are expanding academic programs, investing in our campus, strengthening partnerships, and thinking seriously about what a small, independent college can and should look like in the future.

We are particularly interested in leaders with experience in three areas:

Development, Fundraising & Community Engagement

We want to introduce more people to P.I.T., our students, and the work happening here.

We are particularly interested in people with experience in philanthropy, nonprofit development, major gifts, corporate partnerships, donor engagement, fundraising strategy, community relations, or building strong professional and community networks.

We don't simply want to “raise money.”

We want to build relationships with people and organizations who believe our students and our mission are worth investing in.

Finance & Business

Growth creates opportunity.

It also requires strong financial stewardship, thoughtful questions, and people willing to look around corners.

We are interested in leaders with backgrounds in accounting, banking, investments, audit, financial management, risk, entrepreneurship, or business leadership.

Education & Workforce Development

The workforce is changing.

Education has to change with it.

We are looking for people with experience in higher education, K-12 education, career and technical education, workforce development, healthcare education, student success, accreditation, or education policy.

We are particularly interested in people willing to think differently about how education connects students to meaningful careers and economic opportunity.

Previous board experience is welcomed.

It is absolutely not required.

Board committee service can also be a great way to learn more about P.I.T., share your expertise, and explore whether future service as a Trustee might be the right fit.

We aren't looking for people who simply want another board listed in their bio.

We are looking for people who are curious. Engaged. Willing to ask questions. And excited about helping an institution grow.

Who Are We Looking For?

Maybe you're a CEO.

Maybe you're 35 and starting to wonder how you can become more involved in your community.

Maybe you recently retired and have decades of experience that shouldn't go to waste.

Maybe you're an educator, a banker, a fundraiser, a healthcare professional, an entrepreneur, or someone whose career doesn't fit neatly into a box.

P.I.T. has never been particularly interested in fitting neatly into boxes either.

For more than 70 years, we have adapted to meet the needs of our students and our region.

We are student-centered.

We are career-focused.

We are small enough to move quickly and personal enough to know our students.

And we believe our best years are still ahead of us.
