Description
Title: Volunteer Dining Room Attendant
Location: Wellington Senior Center
Need: To oversee and help run an efficient, safe, and enjoyable mealtime for clients and fellow volunteers. Also, to support older adults most in need in their ability to sustain healthy physical and emotional independence through social engagement and the daily service of nutritionally balanced meals.
Deliverables: Each lead volunteer will oversee and assist with the daily service of catered, nutritionally balanced meals. They will also ensure that fellow volunteers are oriented, have tasks, are practicing proper food safety, and are efficient in serving meals and meeting Diner needs.
Outcome: Older adults will receive support in their ability to sustain healthy physical and emotional independence through social engagement and nutritionally balanced meals.
Key Responsibilities & Work Environment:
Including but not limited to -
- Oversee, guide, and help train other volunteers on daily tasks.
- Utilize proper food safety and monitor other volunteers’ food safety practices.
- Announce program and site updates to Diners as needed.
- Take and record food temperatures as needed, and correct issues if necessary (reheat/cool).
- Ability to follow directions.
- Ensure a warm, friendly environment where all Diners feel welcome and appreciated.
- Recognize new diners and act as greeter, helping to introduce Diners to one another.
Qualifications:
- Willingness to oversee mealtimes and guide other volunteers.
- Good communication and listening skills.
- Ability to multitask and adjust to changes in procedures.
- Availability from 11am – 1pm.
- Friendly and caring personality.
- Ability to provide own transportation to and from dining sites. This may include driving a personal vehicle.
- Successful completion of a background check, application, and interview.
- Physical mobility to handle routine kitchen and office tasks and the ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Training and Support:
Each volunteer will complete an on-site training with the Community Meals Supervisor. The Nutrition Project Manager and Community Meals Supervisor are available for support by phone and onsite as needed.
Time Commitment:
- One 2-hour shift on the same scheduled day each week (or more if desired).
- Minimum commitment of 6 months.
