    Description

Weekend docent: Historic Issaquah Depot Museum

If you love immersing yourself in local history, making conversation, and spending your time in cool historic buildings, join us as a docent at the historic Issaquah Depot Museum!

Located in the heart of historic Olde Town Issaquah, our 1889 train station was renovated by volunteers in the 1980s and has been open as a public museum ever since. You don't need to know local history to make a great docent—you just need to bring your curiosity about it.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Signing up for one 4-hour shift per month (a Saturday or Sunday, 11am–3pm)
    • Unlocking the museum and putting out our signs
    • Welcoming visitors and counting visitors, and asking for sign-ins and donations
    • Supervising activity on and around the museum grounds during museum hours, which includes historic train cars
    • Sharing information about the Depot, train lines, and Issaquah generally
    • Engaging visitors in activities throughout the Depot (ex: scavenger hunts)
    • Working our gift shop using a Square point-of-sale

What will make you a fabulous docent:

    • Some local knowledge of Issaquah and surrounding areas
    • Ability to make conversation with visitors from far and wide
    • A curiosity about local history, trains, early industries, settlers, or another connection to Issaquah's past

You'll need to pass a Washington State Patrol background check and provide 2 references (personal or professional, non-family), then attend a 1-hour training, to join our docent team.
