    Description

Volunteer AI Software & Web Developer

Organization: Keep AI Safe (KAIS) Location: Fully Remote Type: Volunteer, part-time, flexible hours

    About Keep AI Safe

Keep AI Safe (KAIS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to protecting children and families from unsafe AI toys and companions. Through education, independent safety ratings, live incident monitoring, and parent guidance, we help households navigate the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem with confidence and clarity.

    The role

We are looking for a volunteer software and web developer with advanced AI-assisted coding and web design skills to help maintain, expand, and optimize our digital platforms: the keepaisafe.org website, KAIS Academy, our safety tools, and other projects.

Our development workflow is fully AI-native. We build with Claude Code inside VS Code, host on Railway, and run our DNS and edge through Cloudflare. You will work directly with organization leadership, ship real features to a live production site, and help shape how a modern nonprofit uses AI to build and operate its technology.

    Our platforms

    What you'll do

    • Build new pages and features for keepaisafe.org (React 18, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, Express)
    • Help expand KAIS Academy, our education platform
    • Improve and extend our safety tools, including toy safety ratings, live AI incident monitoring, and gaming safety resources
    • Optimize page speed, Core Web Vitals, and on-page SEO
    • Support deployments on Railway and configuration on Cloudflare
    • Use Claude Code with VS Code as a core part of the daily workflow, and help refine our AI development practices

    What we're looking for

    • Strong experience with modern web development (React, TypeScript, Node.js or similar)
    • Hands-on experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) as a core part of your workflow
    • Solid web design skills: responsive layouts, accessibility, and attention to visual detail
    • Self-directed and reliable; able to own features from idea to production
    • Able to commit consistent volunteer hours each week (schedule is flexible)

Nice to have: Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui, Framer Motion, PostgreSQL/Drizzle, Railway or Cloudflare experience, SEO and analytics familiarity, and an interest in AI safety or child protection.

    What you'll receive

    • A premium seat on our Claude organization plan (6.25x more usage than the Claude Pro plan) for use in your volunteer work
    • A portfolio of shipped, production work on a live platform serving parents and educators worldwide
    • Deep hands-on experience with a fully AI-native development workflow
    • Direct collaboration with nonprofit leadership and real influence over technical direction
    • The chance to make a meaningful contribution to protecting children in the age of AI
