Mentor Teen Leaders in Nola

Heart of Passion (HoP) paves the way for a future of socially minded, personally responsible community and business leaders. Mentors are an integral part of achieving that goal! Mentor teams of 3-5 young professionals work closely with each other and HoP program directors to both challenge and support their cohort of 15 teen leaders while the leaders plan their summer Red Carpet Day retreat for teens with cancer. While RCD is "for teens, from teens," mentors are the backbone of support for the leaders.

This volunteer role lasts for the duration of the school year. Mentors follow the HoP Leadership Development curriculum as they facilitate monthly meetings and provide regular guidance to the teens.

There is no such thing as an “ideal mentor” because we assemble a balanced a diverse team. That said, successful mentors are go-getters that are organized, communicative, and resilient.

• Aug 15 – Mentor Selections
• Aug/Sept – Leader Selections
• Sept – 1.5 hour ice breaker kickoff and parent info session
• Oct – overnight national leader training retreat
• Nov – Speed Networking
• Dec – April – one 3 hour workshop per month (plus one hour prep). Mentors rotate leading the HoP-provided curriculum and assist in the other meetings.
• Monthly – check in with Mentor Group members for personal development and encourage. Provide parent updates as appropriate.
• Regular and timely emailing, texting, and group messaging with leaders, mentors, and Heart of Passion.
• Summer – RCD, a four-day overnight retreat
