    Description

Pen Pal Volunteer for Hospice Patients

Organization: Beacon Hospice (An Amedisys Company)

Volunteer Opportunity Type: Ongoing Pen Pal Volunteer

Commitment: Approximately one handwritten card or letter per week

    Schedule: Flexible

Bring Comfort, Connection, and Kindness Through the Mail

Beacon Hospice is seeking compassionate and dependable volunteers to become Pen Pals for hospice patients.

Through this meaningful volunteer opportunity, you can brighten a patient's week with something as simple as a handwritten card or letter. Receiving a friendly note in the mail can provide encouragement, companionship, and a wonderful reminder that someone is thinking of them.

As a Pen Pal Volunteer, you will be matched with a hospice patient and asked to write approximately once per week. Your letters do not need to be long or elaborate. A few thoughtful words, a cheerful story, an uplifting poem, a seasonal greeting, or simply sharing a little about your day can create a meaningful connection.

    What You'll Do

    • Write approximately one handwritten card or letter each week
    • Send friendly, uplifting, and encouraging messages to a hospice patient
    • Share appropriate stories, poems, seasonal greetings, or other positive thoughts
    • Help provide an ongoing sense of companionship and connection
    • Give your Pen Pal something special to look forward to in the mail

Why Become a Pen Pal Volunteer?

Hospice volunteering can take many forms, and even a simple letter can make a meaningful difference.

Through regular correspondence, Pen Pal Volunteers can help remind hospice patients that they are seen, valued, remembered, and cared for.

What This Opportunity Can Offer Patients

    • A friendly connection to look forward to
    • Encouragement and emotional support
    • The joy of receiving personal mail
    • A greater sense of connection to their community
    • A reminder that someone is thinking about them

What You'll Gain as a Volunteer

    • A meaningful way to make a difference through a simple act of kindness
    • A flexible volunteer opportunity
    • The chance to build a unique connection with someone in your community
    • An opportunity to practice compassion and thoughtfulness
    • The satisfaction of knowing your words may brighten someone's day

    Qualifications

We're looking for volunteers who are:

    • Compassionate, dependable, and respectful
    • Able to commit to writing approximately once per week
    • Comfortable writing positive, friendly, and inclusive messages
    • Mindful of patient privacy and appropriate boundaries
    • Interested in providing companionship through the written word

No special writing experience is necessary. You don't have to be a poet or an expert letter writer. You simply need a willingness to share kindness and consistently let someone know you're thinking of them.

Make a Difference, One Letter at a Time

Sometimes the smallest gestures can be incredibly meaningful. A handwritten card arriving in the mail can become something to look forward to each week and a heartfelt reminder that someone cares.

If you're looking for a flexible and meaningful way to make a difference in the life of someone receiving hospice care, we'd love to hear from you.

Become a Pen Pal Volunteer with Beacon Hospice and help us make sure our patients know they are remembered and cared for. ❤️
