    Description

The Community Nutrition Program at Project Open Hand is thrilled to introduce a brand-new beverage service for our clients which will include making lattes with an espresso machine. This beverage service is intended to enhance the client experience and support a welcoming, café-style environment in our new space. Flexibility is important, as additional tasks could vary from day to day depending on each shift’s needs.

This role is great for individuals that want to interact and build relationships with our clients, staff, and other volunteers at our relocated Ruth Brinker Meal Site. This role was made for individuals who are prepared to get their hands dirty and comfortable taking ownership of their assigned tasks.

At the start of each shift, all volunteers are responsible for signing in on a tablet in the lobby at 730 Polk and then checking in with one of the CNP Site Coordinators at RBMS to receive shift instructions. All volunteers will receive a history of Project Open Hand, official orientation, and food safety training upon arrival for their first shift. Please note that this volunteer opportunity often involves handling dairy products and hot liquids.

    Beverage Service Logistics

Volunteers will be trained on how to clean, function, and maintain our brand-new espresso machine. Each shift will include preparing and serving hot beverages (lattes) for RBMS participants at our Community Nutrition Program location, Ruth Brinker Meal Site during lunch located at 771 Ellis Street in San Francisco. Volunteers will also be expected to maintain the cleanliness of the beverage station and complete monthly maintenance of the machine as well as other important tasks such as sorting and organizing delivery of necessary supplies. Coffee, tea, and water will also be provided for clients (seconds okay if requested).
