About A Better Chance of Andover

A Better Chance (ABC) of Andover is a program that provides academically talented young women of color from underserved communities access to an outstanding education at Andover High School. Scholars live together in a supportive residential community while pursuing rigorous academic and leadership opportunities.

Position Summary

Tutors and Coaches play a crucial role in shaping the futures of our Scholars. Their guidance helps Scholars navigate their academic journeys, set meaningful goals, and unlock their full potential. Tutors and Coaches provide supplemental instruction and support in subject areas often most challenging to our scholars. Tutors and Coaches meet with scholars at the ABC House in Andover during study hours, and focus on each student's educational needs and goals.

We are most in need of Tutors with knowledge and expertise in Math and Science, as well as STEM subjects.

Responsibilities

• Meet with scholars on a regular schedule at the ABC House
• Provide instruction and supplemental support, homework help and test preparation support in key subjects, typically science and/or math
• Follow all ABC policies and guidelines for Tutors and Coaches
• Communicate progress to Academic Advisors and/or ABC staff

Qualifications

• Expertise, education or experience in subject matter.
• Interest or experience in teaching.
• Commitment to supporting the educational success of our scholars.
• Strong communication skills.

Time Commitment

Flexible and based on volunteer availability and scholar needs. Volunteers may choose opportunities that fit their schedules.

Training and Screening

All Volunteer Drivers must complete the ABC volunteer application process, background screening, and any required orientation prior to meeting with scholars.
