    Position description

The Podcast Producer leads the planning, production, and publication of the Women in Science PDX podcast. Working with fellow Communications team members, you'll identify engaging STEM topics, coordinate guests, use AI tools to streamline episode planning, and oversee each episode from concept to publication. Our best episodes feel less like interviews and more like conversations fueled by curiosity. We're looking for someone who enjoys asking thoughtful questions, helping guests tell their stories, and creating authentic discussions that make science feel approachable and human. This role is ideal for someone interested in podcasting, science communication, digital media, and storytelling.

    Key Position Responsibilities

    • Develop and maintain the podcast production schedule.
    • Identify engaging STEM topics and potential guests that align with the WIS PDX mission.
    • Coordinate guest outreach, scheduling, and interview logistics.
    • Use AI tools to brainstorm episode ideas, develop interview questions, draft episode descriptions, and support production workflows.
    • Record, edit, and publish podcast episodes using WIS PDX's approved production tools.
    • Coordinate promotional requests for each published episode, including social media, graphics, website updates, and email marketing.
    • Recommend new formats, series, and creative ideas to help grow the podcast.
    • Attend monthly Communications Committee meetings.

    Ideal Experience

We're looking for someone who's naturally curious and enjoys learning from others. You don't need to have all the answers—some of the best podcast hosts simply know how to ask thoughtful questions and make people feel comfortable sharing their stories.

    • Podcasting, audio production, or interviewing
    • Audio editing software (Audacity, Riverside, or similar)
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Interest in science communication, journalism, or digital media
    • Organization and project management skills

You don't need prior podcasting experience to be successful in this role. We'll provide the tools, guidance, and support—you'll bring the curiosity.

    What You'll Gain

As the Podcast Producer, you'll have the opportunity to:

    • Gain hands-on experience producing a podcast from concept to publication.
    • Learn interviewing, audio production, AI-assisted content development, and digital storytelling skills.
    • Build a portfolio of published podcast episodes.
    • Develop experience coordinating creative projects within a nonprofit communications team.
    • Help amplify the voices and stories of Portland's STEM community.
