    Description

    Court Appointed Special Advocate

CASA of Oklahoma County is a nonprofit that recruits, screens, trains, and supports community volunteers advocating for children removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. CASA volunteers ensure a foster child's best interests are presented both in and out of the courtroom, helping prevent children from falling through the cracks of an overburdened child welfare system.

For many children, a CASA volunteer is the one consistent, non-paid adult who remains by their side throughout their time in foster care. CASA volunteers build meaningful relationships with the children they serve and often know more about the child's needs, experiences, and progress than any other professional involved in the case. Their advocacy provides stability, support, and a trusted adult presence during a traumatic time.

    As a CASA, you will...

    • Advocate for the child.
    • Gather pertinent information by speaking with the child, family, teachers, doctors, counselors, and others.
    • Monitor the child's progress.
    • Report to the court as the "eyes and ears" of the Judge.
    • Support the child's needs.
    • Remain independent and objective.
    • Maintain confidentiality.

To be a CASA, you must...

    • Be 21 years or older
    • Live or work in Oklahoma County
    • Pass background checks and complete 30 hours of advocacy training
    • Be sworn in as an officer of the court
    • Have reliable transportation
