Description
Responsible for the efficient operation of the print shop and for achieving publication goals and objectives.
Position Responsibilities
Print Shop Management
- Processes sales in our POS software and gives sales receipts to Accounting.
- Maintains petty cash records and cash register transactions.
- Estimates print shop inventory requirements for parts and supplies based on lead times and ensures that adequate levels are maintained.
- Orders supplies as needed.
- Calculates and adjusts print shop charges to maintain predetermined. print shop profit or loss margin.
- Liaises with print vendors and Central Purchasing to obtain production quotes.
Equipment usage and maintenance
- Operates printing and binding equipment, including but not limited to: commercial printers (paper and vinyl), commercial paper cutter, grommet installation tools, folding and comb binding equipment.
- Plans and performs preventative maintenance and repairs to print shop machines.
- Performs periodic meter readings for our equipment lease company.
Design and Print Production
- Has a working knowledge of Adobe Software and equipment-specific print add-ons to make quick edits to existing layouts and to print on multiple machines.
- Reviews digital printer proofs as needed. On-site press proofs may also occasionally need to be reviewed for quality assurance.
- Collaborates with the Design staff and contributes to project planning and execution.
Training
- Supervises and trains print shop personnel in all aspects of the printing and maintenance process.
Customer Relations
- Provides excellent customer service by answering questions, giving estimates and providing requests in a timely fashion.
Position Requirements
- Excellent customer service skills
- Print shop experience preferred, such as familiarity with related software, commercial printers, and paper types
