    Description

    CASA Advocate for Children

    CASA Volunteer Description

A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteer is a trained community member appointed by a Family Court Judge to advocate for the best interests of a child who has experienced abuse or neglect. CASA Volunteers serve as the child’s voice in court, ensuring their needs and wishes are heard and that they receive the care, stability, and support they deserve.

CASA Volunteers get to know the child and everyone involved in their life—family members, foster parents, teachers, social workers, and others—then provide detailed, fact-based reports to help the judge make informed decisions about the child’s future.

Each CASA Volunteer commits to spending a few hours each month visiting with their assigned child, gathering information, and submitting reports to the court. Volunteers receive thorough training and ongoing support from CASA staff.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Build a trusting relationship with the child.
    • Communicate regularly with caregivers, teachers, and professionals involved in the case.
    • Review case documents and attend court hearings.
    • Submit written recommendations to the court on what is in the child’s best interest.
    • Advocate for the child’s needs in education, health, and overall well-being.

    Requirements:

    • Must be 21 years or older.
    • Must complete CASA training and submit to background checks.
    • Must not be a current foster parent or DCBS social worker.
    • Demonstrate compassion, dependability, and strong communication skills.
    • Maintain confidentiality and a commitment to the child’s best interest.

CASA Volunteers give children hope by ensuring their voices are heard and their futures are brighter. Call 270-683-2138 or vist our website www.CASAovky.org to learn more!
