    Board Secretary (Volunteer) – Miss Delaware Scholarship Organization

    Location: Fully remote, with preference for candidates located in Delaware or surrounding states

    Commitment: Approximately 2–4 hours per month

    About Us

    The Miss Delaware Scholarship Organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and the official state affiliate of the Miss America Organization—the largest scholarship provider for women in the United States. Through our program, we are committed to advancing scholarship, leadership development, and community service opportunities for young women across Delaware.

    Position Overview

    The Board Secretary plays a critical role in ensuring strong governance, effective board operations, and accurate organizational recordkeeping. This individual will work closely with the Board President and Executive Director(s) to support compliance, maintain official records, and help facilitate well-organized and productive board meetings.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Record and maintain accurate minutes for all board and committee meetings
    • Ensure timely distribution of agendas, minutes, and board materials
    • Maintain official organizational records, including bylaws and key governance documents
    • Support adherence to governance best practices, including Robert’s Rules of Order
    • Serve as a steward of organizational documentation and historical records
    • Partner with board leadership to support effective and well-structured meetings

    Qualifications

    • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
    • Experience with meeting documentation, recordkeeping, or governance processes
    • Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion
    • Prior nonprofit board experience or familiarity with governance structures preferred
    • Professional background in law, administration, or corporate governance is a plus

    Commitment Expectations

    • Regular attendance at board meetings (virtual and in-person, as applicable)
    • Participation in key organizational events, including the annual Miss Delaware Competition
    • Collaborative engagement with board leadership and committee members
