    Volunteering With SCOPE

    SCOPE USA, Inc. is a Florida-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports university engineering students to design and open-source public safety and disaster preparedness technology. Our students also engage their local communities through workshops oriented around public safety, STEM awareness, and disaster preparedness. Our volunteers help power every part of the organization. Volunteers work directly with our leadership team to advance SCOPE's mission. You'll lend your experience to a cause that matters, connect with a passionate team, and contribute to work that strengthens community safety across Florida and beyond.

    About This Opportunity

    The Grant Writer Volunteer researches, drafts, and submits grant applications to foundations, government agencies, and other funders on behalf of SCOPE. This is an ongoing volunteer role that plays a direct part in sustaining and expanding SCOPE's programs and university Hubs.

    Responsibilities

    • Research grant opportunities aligned with SCOPE's mission in public safety and emergency preparedness
    • Draft compelling grant narratives, project descriptions, and budgets in collaboration with SCOPE leadership
    • Track application deadlines, submission requirements, and reporting obligations
    • Maintain a grant calendar and pipeline to support SCOPE's fundraising strategy
    • Assist with grant reporting for awarded funds as needed

    Qualifications

    • Experience with grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit development (professional or academic)
    • Strong written communication skills with attention to detail
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
    • Familiarity with grant databases such as Candid/Foundation Directory or Grants.gov is a plus
