    Description

    About Welcome Home Housing

Welcome Home Housing is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to providing affordable housing and support services for adults living with serious mental illness. Since 2004, we've been transforming lives through our unique housing model. We currently manage five homes in the Rosemont and Rancho Cordova communities where residents find stability, community, and the support they need to thrive. Our motto says it best: Wellness Begins with a Place to Call Home.

Welcome Home Housing is a lean organization that operates with a working board model. Beyond the typical governance responsibilities of nonprofit boards of fiduciary oversight, strategic planning, and policy development, our board members actively contribute hands-on support to advance the organization's mission. We rely on dedicated volunteers to support critical administrative functions alongside our passionate staff, and this collaborative approach allows us to maximize our impact while building deep relationships with our community.

    The Opportunity

Welcome Home Housing is seeking a dedicated volunteer with strong accounting experience to serve as our Board Treasurer. This is a meaningful leadership position where your financial expertise will directly impact our ability to serve vulnerable adults in our community.

    Key Responsibilities

    As Treasurer, you will:

    • Oversee Financial Management: Monitor monthly bookkeeping tasks, track expenses, and ensure adherence to our annual budget
    • Conduct Bank Reconciliations: Reconcile accounts monthly and present findings to the Board
    • Prepare Financial Reports: Create monthly financial statements and budget-versus-actual reports for Board review
    • Draft Annual Budgets: Work with the Executive Director to develop annual budgets for Board approval
    • Manage Tax Compliance: Handle all tax reporting (990 and state forms) with deadlines met
    • Collaborate with Leadership: Work closely with the Executive Director and bookkeeper to maintain financial integrity
    • Support Board Governance: Participate in monthly board meetings and contribute to board initiatives

    Required Skills & Experience

    • Strong proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and Google Workspace
    • Solid accounting knowledge and experience with nonprofit financial management
    • Ability to manage multiple financial responsibilities and deadlines
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Commitment to nonprofit governance and financial transparency

    What We're Looking For

Beyond technical skills, we need someone who:

    • Is passionate about our mission to support adults with serious mental illness
    • Brings thoughtfulness and leadership to board discussions
    • Can work independently while collaborating effectively with staff and board members
    • Is willing to chair our Finance Committee and contribute expertise to strengthen our organization's financial sustainability
    • Understands the unique challenges of small nonprofits and is committed to building sustainable financial practices

    Board Commitment

As a full board member, you'll be expected to:

    • Attend monthly board meetings (held evenings on the second Tuesday of each month, mainly via Zoom with an occasional physical meeting in Sacramento)
    • Chair the Finance Committee and assist with fundraising strategy and initiatives
    • Support and attend fundraising events organized by Welcome Home Housing
    • Make a meaningful financial contribution to the organization annually
    • Work from home with a flexible schedule

    Why Join Us?

Your financial stewardship and fundraising leadership will directly enable Welcome Home Housing to continue providing stable housing, supportive community, and independent living skills development to adults who need it most. You'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference in Sacramento.
