    Description

    Housing & Resource Navigator Volunteer

TWCUYC is seeking dedicated volunteers to assist community members with housing navigation and support with identification documents. This role is ideal for individuals who are organized, resourceful, and comfortable navigating multiple systems to help people overcome barriers to stability.

Volunteers will work directly with participants to identify resources, complete applications, gather required documentation, and connect with opportunities that support housing stability and self-sufficiency.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist participants with obtaining essential identification documents, including birth certificates, state IDs, driver’s licenses, and Social Security cards.
    • Navigate local, state, and community resource systems to identify available services and opportunities.
    • Support participants in completing applications, submitting documentation, and following up with agencies.
    • Assist with housing navigation by identifying rental opportunities, housing programs, and property owners willing to consider applicants facing barriers such as low credit scores, prior evictions, limited rental history, or criminal backgrounds.
    • Conduct research and outreach to community partners, service providers, and housing resources.
    • Maintain accurate participant records and track progress.
    • Communicate professionally with participants, landlords, agencies, and community partners.
    • Help participants problem-solve barriers and identify next steps toward stability.

    Preferred Skills

    • Strong computer proficiency and internet research skills.
    • Ability to navigate multiple online systems, databases, and application portals.
    • Strong organizational, follow-up, and time management skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple cases and competing priorities.
    • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
    • Ability to work independently and identify solutions with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
    • Experience in case management, housing services, workforce development, social services, nonprofit operations, customer service, or administrative support is preferred but not required.

    Ideal Volunteer Characteristics

    • Compassionate and patient.
    • Dependable and professional.
    • Resourceful and solution-oriented.
    • Comfortable advocating on behalf of others.
    • Able to build rapport with diverse populations.
    • Committed to helping individuals overcome barriers and achieve stability.

    Time Commitment

Volunteers should be available for a minimum of 8 hours per week. Additional availability is strongly encouraged, given the volume of participant requests and the ongoing nature of housing and resource navigation services.

    Impact

By helping individuals obtain identification documents, navigate complex systems, and access housing opportunities, volunteers play a direct role in building a foundation for long-term stability and self-sufficiency for community members.
