Volunteers to call Hospice Patients in Marshall Co., Al

Thank you for considering volunteering with Enhabit Health-Hospice in Marshall Co., Al. Phone support volunteers call patients and their family members.

Types of phone calls that Phone Support Volunteers can make are:

    • Tuck in calls: volunteers come into the branch office, to call patients weekly (Wednesday or Thursday mornings) to check on patients to ensure they have the supplies, and everything they need and report needs and documentation to volunteer coordinator.
    • Birthday & Holiday calls: call patients on their birthdays to provide companionship and emotional support or on holidays to let them know we're thinking about them and care for them during the holiday season
    • Bereavement calls: call family members of past Enhabit Hospice patients to encourage and remind them of our free support offered by our trained staff
    • Companionship and Emotional support: Providing supportive listening with patients and/or caregivers by phone on a regular basis. Provide active listening, emotional support, and connection to the outside world for socially isolated patients.

    Requirements

Volunteers are welcome to provide assistance during the day, after hours, or on weekends. Volunteer commitment is flexible to volunteer’s schedule.

    Requirements

We provide free training for all our volunteers. We prepare our volunteers to understand the complexity of issues & feelings that surround hospice care & end of life. Our care process is designed to maximize our patient’s quality of life & offer our patients & their love ones comfort, support & guidance when facing a terminal illness. Therefore, volunteers must complete the application & orientation processes. To ensure the safety of patients & volunteers Enhabit will do background screenings, & require volunteers to provide a valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance. A 2-step TB skin test will be provided by Enhabit. Volunteers must have reliable transportation, must be dependable, & can complete written documentation.

Jr. volunteers ages 14-18 may volunteer in the patient’s home if they are accompanied & supervised by an adult volunteer.
