What This Position Is For
Bedrock Health Group is seeking an experienced Grant Writer (Volunteer) to support the identification, development, and submission of grant funding opportunities across federal, foundation, and healthcare-specific funding sources. This opportunity is designed for individuals who have prior grant writing experience within healthcare organizations, health systems, hospitals, federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), or nonprofit healthcare environments.
This is not an entry-level opportunity. We are looking for someone who understands the healthcare funding landscape, is comfortable navigating federal and foundation grant structures, and can write compelling, compliance-aligned proposals that reflect the work of a regulated healthcare organization.
Position Summary
The Grant Writer will support Bedrock's funding development efforts by researching grant opportunities, developing proposals, and contributing to the preparation and submission of grant applications across federal, foundation, and healthcare-specific funding sources. This role requires someone who can communicate Bedrock's mission clearly and compellingly within grant frameworks and who understands the language, structure, and compliance requirements of healthcare-focused funding environments.
This role is centered on internal development and funding strategy and does not involve direct client, patient, or provider-facing responsibilities, nor access to protected or personally identifiable information.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and identify federal, foundation, and healthcare-specific grant opportunities aligned with Bedrock's mission and programs
- Develop, write, and refine grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding narratives
- Support the preparation and organization of grant application materials, attachments, and supporting documentation
- Assist with tracking grant deadlines, submission requirements, and funding calendars
- Help maintain organized records of submitted applications, awards, and funder relationships
- Support the development of grant reporting narratives and funder updates as needed
- Collaborate with leadership to align grant narratives with organizational priorities and program development
- Contribute to the development of Bedrock's long-term funding strategy and grant pipeline
- Assist with identifying new funding sources and emerging opportunities in the healthcare nonprofit funding landscape

Qualifications
Required
- Prior grant writing experience within a healthcare organization, health system, hospital, FQHC, or nonprofit healthcare environment
- Demonstrated experience writing and submitting federal, foundation, or healthcare-specific grant proposals
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to craft clear, compelling, and compliance-aligned funding narratives
- Familiarity with federal grant structures, healthcare funding terminology, and nonprofit funding landscapes
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines, documentation, and multiple grant applications
- Ability to work independently, follow direction, and communicate clearly about funding development work
- Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate grant records and application documentation
Preferred
- Experience with federal funding agencies such as HRSA, HHS, SAMHSA, CDC, or similar healthcare-focused funders
- Familiarity with foundation grant processes and healthcare-focused philanthropic funding
- Experience writing grant reports, funder updates, or continuation applications
- Familiarity with grant management tools or databases (e.g., Grants.gov, Foundation Directory, Fluxx, or similar)
- Experience with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace
- Background in healthcare administration, public health, nonprofit development, health policy, or related fields
- Interest in healthcare innovation, provider operations, nonprofit healthcare strategy, or systems improvement
Time Commitment
- Flexible volunteer schedule with a minimum of 3–5 hours per week based on grant deadlines and organizational needs
