    Description

Fundraising & Development Lead – Nonprofit Strategy & Growth

Take the lead in building Brady's next chapter of fundraising.

Founded in 1987, James S. Brady Therapeutic Riding is a San Francisco nonprofit that helps children and young people build strength, confidence, and connection through the healing power of horses. Since 2019, Brady has operated on the grounds of San Francisco Zoo & Gardens.

As our programs and partnerships grow, we're seeking an experienced fundraising professional to take ownership of our development efforts, establish priorities, and build a more sustainable fundraising program.

This is a leadership opportunity for someone who wants the autonomy to shape strategy, drive initiatives, and deliver measurable results—not simply support an existing fundraising team.

You'll collaborate directly with Brady's Executive Director and Director of Strategy, while taking the lead in moving fundraising initiatives forward.

    What You'll Lead

    • Fundraising Strategy: Develop and execute a practical fundraising plan, identifying priorities across grants, corporate sponsorships, individual giving, and events.
    • Grants & Foundations: Build and manage a grant pipeline, oversee proposals and applications, and track deadlines and reporting.
    • Corporate Sponsorships: Identify prospective partners, develop sponsorship opportunities, and lead outreach and relationship-building.
    • Individual Giving: Strengthen donor cultivation, stewardship, and giving campaigns.
    • Fundraising Campaigns & Events: Guide fundraising initiatives, coordinating with project teams and volunteers.
    • Development Operations: Establish systems for tracking prospects, donations, relationships, and fundraising performance.
    • Team Coordination: Help direct and coordinate the work of our fundraising volunteers.

You Might Be a Great Fit If You...

    • Have demonstrated experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, corporate giving, or a closely related field.
    • Have successfully managed fundraising initiatives, campaigns, grants, or sponsorship programs.
    • Can translate broad organizational goals into actionable plans and measurable results.
    • Are comfortable taking initiative, setting priorities, and working independently.
    • Have strong writing, communication, and relationship-building skills.
    • Enjoy creating structure and building programs rather than maintaining established ones.
    • Can collaborate effectively with organizational leadership without requiring extensive day-to-day direction.

We're looking for someone who can lead the work, not someone who needs to be trained in fundraising fundamentals. Experience in multiple fundraising areas is valuable, but expertise in every area is not required.

    Schedule & Commitment

This is an ongoing, flexible, primarily remote volunteer leadership role, with occasional meetings or visits to the Brady Barn, as needed.

You'll have considerable autonomy to organize your work and establish priorities in consultation with Brady's leadership.

    What You'll Gain

    • Strategic ownership: Build and lead a nonprofit fundraising function with substantial independence.
    • Leadership experience: Set priorities, coordinate volunteers, and guide development initiatives.
    • Portfolio-building accomplishments: Develop fundraising strategies, sponsorship programs, grant pipelines, and campaigns with measurable outcomes.
    • Executive collaboration: Work directly with Brady's Executive Director and Director of Strategy on organizational growth.
    • Professional visibility: Play a meaningful role in expanding a longstanding San Francisco nonprofit's reach and sustainability.

This opportunity is particularly well suited to an experienced development professional seeking broader leadership responsibility, someone preparing for a Director of Development role, or a seasoned professional who wants to contribute their expertise to a mission-driven organization.

    Instructions:

Please provide your resume (or LinkedIn profile link) or description of your pertinent background, the best times to contact you, and where you are located. While this role can be done mostly remotely, it's best to be able to visit the Brady Barn (located on SF Zoo grounds) on occasion to soak in the energy and see first-hand how the program benefits our community. Also, it's important to meet people in person at our on-site fundraising events.
