Volunteer | Remote-friendly | 7–12 hours per week
The Campaign Cabinet is the volunteer leadership team for the $20 million campaign. Founding members work directly with organizational leadership to build the philanthropic engine behind the mission: identifying, cultivating, and stewarding the individuals, corporations, and foundations who believe music education should be available to everyone.
Practicing Musician is a Seattle-based social purpose corporation working to remove the barriers between people and music education. Our online platform offers more than 3,800 video tutorials across 16 band and orchestra instruments, a complete learning management system, and curriculum aligned with the National Core Arts Standards, developed with leading music educators. All of it is free for learners, educators, and families. We have 150+ volunteers, over 2,800 educators using our platform in 90+ countries,.
What you'll do
Cabinet members choose one or more focus areas based on their experience and interests:
Major gifts. Identify prospective donors, help design cultivation strategies, participate in donor meetings, and help move relationships toward transformational gifts.
Foundation relations. Build relationships with family, community, and private foundations, and help shape grant strategy alongside our volunteer grant writing team.
Corporate partnerships. Open doors to business leaders and help create sponsorship and strategic partnership opportunities.
Stewardship. Help recognize and thank donors, strengthen long-term relationships, and support impact reporting and donor communications.
Community engagement. Serve as an ambassador within your personal and professional networks and introduce new volunteers and philanthropic partners.
Strategic advising. Lend expertise in fundraising, marketing, business development, finance, communications, or campaign strategy.
Who we're looking for
Volunteers who have experience in one or more of the following: fundraising, major gifts, grant writing, foundation relations, corporate giving, business development, sales leadership, relationship management, marketing, communications, executive leadership, board governance, financial planning, or community leadership.
A passion for music education and a willingness to build meaningful relationships matter more than prior nonprofit experience.
The commitment
- 7–12 hours per week
- Monthly cabinet meetings, plus working groups organized by expertise
- Prospect research, outreach, and donor relationship development
- Strategic planning sessions and special campaign initiatives
- Most activities can be completed remotely

How to Volunteer for This Opportunity

We are seeking dedicated individuals who are passionate about supporting musicians and the arts through fundraising, major gifts, grant writing, foundation relations, corporate giving, business development, sales leadership, relationship management, marketing, communications, executive leadership, board governance, financial planning, or community leadership.

Resume highlighting your professional experience, education, and relevant volunteer work.
Cover Letter (1–2 pages) explaining:
- Why you are interested in volunteering with the Practicing Musician Foundation.
- Your experience with fundraising, or nonprofit development.
- Any experience working with arts organizations, music programs, education, or other nonprofit organizations.
- What strengths and skills you would bring to our organization.
Writing Sample
Please include one of the following:
- A fundraising, major gifts
- A funding request, case statement, or similar professional writing sample.
- If you do not have prior experience, please submit a writing sample that demonstrates your research, organization, and persuasive writing abilities.

Volunteer Commitment
This is a volunteer position intended to support the mission of the Practicing Musician Foundation. This opportunity is not an offer of employment. However, while there is no financial compensation, volunteers will gain valuable nonprofit grant-writing experience, build a professional portfolio, and help create meaningful opportunities for practicing musicians through successful fundraising.
Qualified applicants may be invited to participate in a brief virtual interview and may be asked to complete a short grant-writing or research exercise as part of the selection process.
