    Description

Hospice Vigil Volunteer - Central Ohio

At the very end of life, one of the most important ways we bring comfort is simply by being a calm presence with the dying: holding a hand, saying comforting words. We are looking for volunteers who share this beautiful vision. Some of our patients have no loved ones at the end of life or have been estranged from families; others have families that need extra emotional support. We believe that no one should have to die alone. Would you consider joining our team of compassionate volunteers to sit with patients in their final hours?

You don't need to be a skilled professional to help. We need calm and kind-spirited volunteers who are willing to sit one-on-one at the bedside as someone is actively dying. Training is provided. You can make a difference with just your presence!

Vigil volunteers need to travel and should be flexible on service location, as we have patients throughout Franklin county and beyond. Scheduling is flexible to meet your needs: we are looking for people to serve 2-4 hours at a time. That can be once a month, once a week or more.

Often people worry that hospice volunteering would be depressing and difficult, but our volunteers’ most used expression is "it is a privilege and honor to be with someone in their final moments." To witness someone's passing and help bring them comfort and peace in their last hours can be a rewarding experience. The life that is most changed might be your own!
