Opportunity Overview

Writers Read is seeking a creative and reliable Website & Digital Design Volunteer to help curate and maintain our website presence on Squarespace.

Our goal is to create a digital home that is modern, clean, and sophisticated—one that reflects the beauty of the written word and embodies the diversity, openness, and inclusion we bring to the literary and storytelling community.

This role is flexible and operates largely on an "as-needed / on-call" workflow: when new initiatives, live events, or design refreshes arise, you’ll jump into Squarespace to bring them to life, keeping our digital front door polished and welcoming.

• Platform: Squarespace (with optional Canva / graphic design integration)
• Format: Flexible, 100% remote-friendly (open to volunteers worldwide)
• Ideal Candidate: Someone comfortable navigating Squarespace who appreciates thoughtful layout and design, keeps an eye on project communications, and wants to lend their creative eye to an arts nonprofit

What You’ll Do

Depending on upcoming projects and your personal creative interests, you will help with:

• Squarespace Updates & Page Building: Jump into Squarespace to update existing pages, adjust layouts, post event information, and add new sections (such as featured author highlights, book collections, or partner acknowledgments).
• Responsive Collaboration: Monitor task notifications and project emails, picking up requested website tweaks and executing them smoothly.
• Visual Storytelling & Canva Design (Optional): If you enjoy visual design, you can use Canva alongside our brand book to create custom banners, featured graphics, or aesthetic layouts that complement our written content.
• Elevating the Look & Feel: Help ensure our website remains visually elevated, intuitive to navigate, mobile-friendly, and reflective of our mission to champion inclusive, authentic storytelling.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with:

• Hands-on familiarity or comfort working in Squarespace (editing blocks, pages, styling, and navigation)
• A good eye for clean typography, white space, and visual balance
• Strong communication and follow-through—checking in on tasks and keeping things moving
• Passion for arts, culture, diversity, and the power of personal storytelling

Bonus Points (Not Required):

• Experience using Canva to design web assets aligned with brand guidelines
• An interest in user experience (UX) and making digital spaces accessible and inviting
