Description
Join Seniors in Service of Tampa Bay’s Health Buddies program, a 12-week phone-based volunteer opportunity where you’ll help adults manage chronic conditions, build healthy habits, and feel less alone. You don’t need a medical background, just empathy, reliability, and a friendly voice.
What You’ll Do
- Make 2–3 friendly phone calls per week to one assigned participant.
- Provide companionship and encouragement while discussing weekly health topics such as nutrition, fall prevention, medication safety, and stress management.
- Report general updates to program staff to ensure participants are supported and connected to resources when needed.
Why It Matters
Loneliness can have the same health impact as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Your calls can reduce distress, improve confidence in self-managing health, and even prevent hospital readmissions — all through connection and compassion.
Who You Are
- Empathetic, consistent, and a good listener
- Comfortable talking on the phone
- Passionate about helping others age well and stay connected
