    Description:

    Jordan Court is seeking a volunteer to lead and facilitate a gentle Tai Chi or movement-based activity for residents who have expressed interest in trying new wellness programming. This opportunity focuses on outdoor sessions that include gentle stretching, balance, and mindful movement suitable for seniors.

    Sessions are planned to begin in July and will typically take place at 2:00 PM on Wednesdays or Fridays. The frequency may be weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly depending on volunteer availability and resident engagement.

    Reports to:

    Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator

    Goal of Position:

    To provide senior residents with a safe, accessible outlet for physical movement and relaxation, while supporting overall wellness, mobility, and social connection in an outdoor setting.

    Specific Tasks:

    1. Plan and prepare a simple structure for each movement or Tai Chi session, focusing on gentle stretching and mobility.
    2. Lead residents through outdoor exercises that promote balance, flexibility, and relaxation.
    3. Provide clear instructions, encouragement, and positive reinforcement throughout the activity.
    4. Adapt movements as needed to accommodate varying physical abilities.
    5. Monitor attendance and ensure all participating residents sign the sign-in sheet.
    6. Be attentive to resident feedback, questions, or suggestions and adjust sessions as appropriate.
    7. Assist with setting up and cleaning up the activity space as needed.
    8. Communicate any supply needs or concerns to the Service Coordinator or Volunteer Coordinator.

    Qualifications:

    Physical/Age Requirements:

    • Ability to remain physically active for approximately one hour.
    • Comfortable leading light movement activities outdoors.

    Skills/Education/Experience:

    • Experience with Tai Chi, yoga, gentle movement, or exercise instruction is preferred.
    • Prior experience leading or facilitating group activities is a plus.
    • Friendly, patient, and encouraging demeanor.
    • Interest in working with senior residents and supporting wellness-focused activities.
    • Ability to work independently with residents while coordinating with site staff.
