About Mentor A Promise
Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a NYC-based nonprofit serving children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning, creative expression, housing innovation, and technology-enabled programs.
MAP’s products and technology—digital platforms, curricula, publishing systems, data tools, and special projects—must always serve children first, uphold ethics and dignity, and translate innovation into real-world impact.
Role Overview
The Chief Product & Technology Officer (CPTO) is MAP’s senior leader responsible for the full product and technology portfolio across the organization. This role ensures that all technology, digital products, and innovation initiatives are mission-aligned, ethically grounded, scalable, and operationally sound.
The CPTO leads division-wide strategy, sets priorities, oversees budgets and resources, and coordinates work across programs, operations, publishing, research, and special projects. This role serves as a key strategic partner to the CEO / Executive Director and senior leadership team.
Division-Wide Responsibilities
- Own and steward the entire MAP product and technology portfolio
- Align technology strategy with MAP’s mission, ethics, child-safety standards, and long-term impact
- Set division-wide priorities, roadmaps, and standards for product development and technology use
- Oversee cross-division coordination between:
- Programs & Education
- Operations & Data
- Publishing & Media
- Research & Special Projects
- Ensure responsible, trauma-informed, and privacy-centered technology practices
- Guide innovation without burdening staff, volunteers, or communities served
Key Responsibilities
Product & Technology Strategy
- Define MAP’s product and technology vision and roadmap
- Ensure products meet real operational and community needs
- Balance innovation with usability, accessibility, and sustainability
Governance, Ethics & Impact
- Ensure all technology aligns with MAP’s ethical frameworks and privacy standards
- Partner with Data Governance, Privacy & Digital Trust leadership
- Embed accessibility, equity, and inclusion into product design
Leadership & Coordination
- Lead and support product, technology, and innovation teams
- Coordinate priorities, timelines, and dependencies across divisions
- Support clear decision-making and accountability
Budget & Resource Oversight
- Oversee division-level budgets, tools, and resource allocation
- Support funding strategy alignment for technology initiatives
- Ensure efficient, mission-aligned use of resources
Qualifications
- Senior experience in product leadership, technology strategy, or digital innovation
- Strong ability to align technology with mission, ethics, and real-world impact
- Experience working across multiple teams or divisions
- Comfort advising executive leadership and shaping strategy
- Strong systems-thinking, communication, and leadership skills
- Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values
Preferred Backgrounds
- Nonprofit, education, civic tech, or social-impact organizations
- Product leadership in mission-driven or regulated environments
- Experience with accessibility, privacy, or youth-centered technology
- Experience leading volunteer or hybrid teams
Commitment
- Volunteer executive leadership role
- Approximately 5–10 hours per week
- Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
- Remote with optional NYC-based collaboration
