    Location: Chicago, IL (West Rogers Park), remote with occasional on site visits

    About Us

    The Well of Mercy is a nonprofit, transitional housing program providing safe, stable housing and a pathway to independence for women and their children in Chicago who are experiencing homelessness and many the impacts of domestic violence and poverty. Residents can live at The Well of Mercy for up to five years while completing education, securing employment, and rebuilding their lives. Our family centered approach blends dignity, community, and opportunity.

    Position Overview

    We are seeking a mission driven Grant Writer volunteer to help secure funding for our programs and operations. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to use their writing skills to make a real, tangible difference in the lives of families rebuilding after crisis.

    What You’ll Do

    • Research grant opportunities primarily from foundations & corporations
    • Write clear, compelling grant proposals and letters of inquiry
    • Collaborate with our Executive Director to gather program data and impact stories
    • Help maintain a grants calendar and track deadlines
    • Assist with grant reports as needed

    What We’re Looking For

    • Proven grant writing experience, professional or volunteer
    • Strong research and persuasive writing skills
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
    • Passion for supporting women and children rebuilding their lives
    • Familiarity with human services, housing programs, or social services is a plus

    Time Commitment

    Flexible schedule, primarily remote. Approximately 5–10 hours per month, with workload varying based on grant cycles and deadlines.
