    Description

    Community Food Pantry Volunteers Needed

Help DC Doors provide nourishing food, dignity, and meaningful support to community members experiencing food insecurity in Washington, D.C.

Over the next three months, our community food pantry will provide pantry bags, fresh food, and emergency meals and snacks to at least 75 to 100 individuals. We are seeking 15 caring and dependable volunteers to help us ensure that every person who visits the pantry feels welcomed, respected, and supported.

    Volunteer Activities

    Volunteers may assist with:

    • Sorting and organizing food donations
    • Packing pantry and emergency food bags
    • Checking inventory and expiration dates
    • Preparing fresh food for distribution
    • Greeting community members and supporting pantry intake
    • Distributing food, snacks, and bottled water
    • Connecting participants with additional DC Doors programs and resources
    • Maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming pantry environment

    Who We Are Looking For

No previous food pantry experience is required. We welcome individuals who are compassionate, reliable, organized, and comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds. Volunteers should be committed to treating every participant with patience, dignity, and respect.

All volunteers will complete a brief orientation covering food safety, confidentiality, and their specific pantry responsibilities.

    Time Commitment

Volunteer opportunities will be available throughout the three-month project period. Volunteers may support food sorting, packing, inventory, intake, or distribution based on their interests and availability.

    Make a Meaningful Difference

Food assistance is often the first point of connection between a person in need and a broader network of support. By volunteering with DC Doors, you will help address immediate hunger while creating opportunities for community members to connect with housing assistance, health care, benefits, employment resources, case management, and other essential services.

Join us in building a food pantry where every person is welcomed, every contribution matters, and neighbors come together to care for one another.
