    Description

    Board member

    Organization: Melanin Minds Matter

Location: Houston, TX (Preferred) / Remote (US)

Role Type: Volunteer Board Member (Executive & General Positions)

    Our Mission

At Melanin Minds Matter, we are on a mission to reimagine mental wellbeing for Black and Brown youth. We combine human connection with high-tech access to create brave spaces and bold solutions that put culture at the center.

    The Journey So Far

For years, Melanin Minds Matter has focused their efforts on providing mental health education to minority girls in K-12 settings.

Now, we are at a pivotal crossroads. We are ready to scale our impact, increase our visibility, and expand our reach to serve minority girls and boys. To do this, we need a powerhouse Board of Directors to transition us from a grassroots initiative to a world-class organization.

The Opportunity: Join Our Founding-Stage Board

We are currently seeking visionary, high-capacity leaders to fill our Board. You will be entering at a "ground floor" level, helping to design the strategy, governance, and funding models that will sustain our growth for years to come.

We are specifically recruiting for the following Officer roles:

    • Board Chair: Provide executive-level leadership, facilitate board meetings, and serve as the primary strategic partner to the organization’s vision.
    • Board Treasurer: Lead financial oversight, budgeting, and long-term fiscal planning to ensure we remain sustainable and compliant as we grow.
    • Board Secretary: Maintain organizational records, manage meeting cadences, and ensure governance standards are met.

We are also seeking General Board Members with expertise in:

    • Fundraising & Development: Identifying grants, corporate sponsorships, and donor networks.
    • Marketing & Public Relations: Increasing our brand visibility and telling our story to a national audience.
    • Legal & Compliance: Guiding us through non-profit regulations and intellectual property needs.
    • Strategic Growth: Helping us scale our curriculum and technological footprint.
    • Other board members: Don't see your expertise listed? Feel free to apply and tell us how your skills align with our mission.

    What We Are Looking For

    • Passion: A genuine commitment to the mental health and empowerment of Black and Brown girls.
    • Influence: Ability to leverage your professional network to open doors for funding and partnerships.
    • Action: We are in a "working board" phase. We need members who are willing to roll up their sleeves and build.
    • Time: A commitment of approximately 10-15 hours per month for meetings and committee work.
    • Geography: While we are based in Houston, TX and have a strong preference for local leaders, we welcome applicants nationwide who have the skills to move the needle.

    Why Join Us?

This is your chance to use your professional expertise to solve one of the most pressing issues of our time: the mental health crisis facing minority youth. You will have a direct hand in building an organization that creates "brave spaces" and "bold solutions," ensuring that every girl knows her mind matters.
