    Description

    The Beaumont Library Adult Literacy Program helps adults acquire the skills they need in reading, writing, and English language proficiency (ESL) through one-to-one tutoring.

    Adult literacy tutor volunteers:

    • Make a difference in someone's life!
    • Need no previous teaching experience
    • Help an adult improve reading and writing skills
    • Help an adult who is learning English with speaking and listening skills
    • Assist learners with developing confidence and a positive attitude about learning
    • Attend a tutor orientation and training

    Volunteer Requirements:

    • Read, write, and speak fluently in English
    • Are at least 18 years old
    • Are able to give 90 minutes on a weekly basis for tutoring
    • Are able to give additional time for lesson planning
    • Are reliable and consistent in their attendance
    • Have good listening skills
    • Are flexible and nonjudgmental
    • Have patience and empathy
    • Are willing to try new things
