Description
The Beaumont Library Adult Literacy Program helps adults acquire the skills they need in reading, writing, and English language proficiency (ESL) through one-to-one tutoring.
Adult literacy tutor volunteers:
- Make a difference in someone's life!
- Need no previous teaching experience
- Help an adult improve reading and writing skills
- Help an adult who is learning English with speaking and listening skills
- Assist learners with developing confidence and a positive attitude about learning
- Attend a tutor orientation and training
Volunteer Requirements:
- Read, write, and speak fluently in English
- Are at least 18 years old
- Are able to give 90 minutes on a weekly basis for tutoring
- Are able to give additional time for lesson planning
- Are reliable and consistent in their attendance
- Have good listening skills
- Are flexible and nonjudgmental
- Have patience and empathy
- Are willing to try new things
