    Description:

    This opportunity is for a volunteer to lead a weekly chair‑yoga class for senior residents at Strawberry Creek Lodge who have expressed interest in wellness and movement activities. The volunteer will guide residents through gentle yoga exercises that support physical mobility, balance, relaxation, and overall well‑being. Classes are held weekly on Wednesdays from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Experience working with seniors is preferred. Knowledge of Mandarin or Cantonese is helpful but not required.

    Reports to:

    Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator

    Goal of Position:

    To provide senior residents with a safe and supportive outlet for physical movement and mindfulness while promoting overall physical, mental, and emotional wellness.

    Specific Tasks:

    1. Prepare an agenda for each yoga session, focusing on chair‑based and gentle movements appropriate for seniors.
    2. Lead residents through yoga exercises while providing clear instructions, encouragement, and positive feedback.
    3. Offer one‑on‑one support to residents as needed while encouraging independence.
    4. Listen to resident feedback and remain open to questions, ideas, and pacing needs.
    5. Monitor attendance and ensure all participating residents sign the sign‑in sheet.
    6. Assist with setting up and cleaning up the space, including moving chairs or tables as needed.
    7. Communicate any supply needs or concerns to the Service Coordinator or Volunteer Coordinator.

    Qualifications:

    Physical/Age Requirements:

    • Able to maintain light to moderate physical activity for one hour.
    • Able to move chairs or tables to create a safe activity space.

    Skills/Education/Experience:

    • Experience or education in yoga, exercise instruction, or movement‑based activities preferred.
    • Prior teaching or group facilitation experience is a plus.
    • Friendly, patient, and comfortable working with senior residents.
    • Ability to work independently with support from on‑site staff as needed.
    • CPR and First Aid certification strongly preferred.
    • Ability to speak Mandarin or Cantonese is helpful but not required.
