    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, education, and community. Through storytelling and media, MAP elevates voices, preserves lived experiences, and creates space for connection, reflection, and possibility.

    About PromiseStudios | Media, Storytelling & Creative Production

    PromiseStudios is MAP’s creative and production division responsible for podcasting, publishing, design, and multimedia storytelling. Through initiatives like PromisePod and Promise Frequencies, the division produces content that is thoughtful, culturally grounded, and rooted in dignity.

    Role Overview

    We are seeking an Assistant Podcast Editor to support audio editing, post-production workflows, and content delivery for podcast episodes.

    This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, technically curious, and passionate about shaping sound into story. The Assistant Editor plays a key role in ensuring episodes are clean, polished, and aligned with MAP’s storytelling standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    Audio Editing & Post-Production

    • Assist in editing raw audio recordings into clean, cohesive episodes
    • Remove background noise, filler words, and technical disruptions
    • Support audio leveling, mixing, and overall sound quality improvement

    Episode Assembly

    • Assist in integrating intros, outros, music, and transitions
    • Ensure episodes follow structure, timing, and format guidelines
    • Prepare draft edits for review by Lead Editor or Producer

    File Management & Workflow

    • Organize audio files, project folders, and version control systems
    • Maintain consistent naming conventions and documentation
    • Track editing progress and deadlines across episodes

    Quality Control

    • Review episodes for clarity, pacing, and listener experience
    • Ensure alignment with MAP’s storytelling tone and quality standards
    • Support final checks before publication

    Cross-Team Collaboration

    • Coordinate with producers and hosts on edits and revisions
    • Support marketing team with finalized audio assets as needed
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Strong attention to detail and organization
    • Interest in audio editing, podcast production, or media
    • Ability to follow technical instructions and workflows
    • Strong time management and reliability
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred

    • Experience with audio editing tools (e.g., Audacity, GarageBand, Adobe Audition, Pro Tools)
    • Basic understanding of sound editing, mixing, and audio quality standards
    • Experience working on podcasts or audio projects
    • Interest in storytelling, music, or media production

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration
