Call to Action for Male Volunteers to Serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates

Become a CASA Volunteer for a Young Man in care

More than 600 children and youth are currently in care throughout Contra Costa County, and over half are boys and young men. Yet only 20% of our Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers are male.

Young men in foster care and the juvenile justice system often navigate instability, disrupted relationships, educational barriers, and systems that can make it difficult to build trust. Many need consistent adults who will show up, listen without judgment, and remain present through challenging moments and important milestones.

CASA volunteers are trained advocates appointed by a judge to support the best interests of children and youth in care. Volunteers build one-on-one relationships with the youth they serve, advocate for educational and emotional support, and help ensure their voices are heard in court and across systems involved in their care.

We are seeking men from all backgrounds who are strong, patient, persistent, and dependable—individuals willing to commit time, consistency, and compassion to a young person who needs an advocate in their corner.

You do not need prior experience in child welfare or mentoring. Training and ongoing staff support are provided throughout your service.

For a young person in foster care, one committed adult can help create stability, connection, and opportunity during a critical period of development. Your presence can make a lasting difference.

How to Volunteer for This Opportunity

Children and youth with a CASA volunteer benefit from consistent advocacy that ensures their needs are heard and addressed throughout their legal journey. Studies show that children with a CASA volunteer are more likely to find safe, permanent homes, succeed in school, and avoid re-entering foster care or the juvenile justice system. CASA volunteers provide critical emotional support and stability, offering comfort and care during turbulent times. Their personalized, one-on-one attention allows them to understand each child’s unique needs, providing tailored advocacy and support. By empowering children to have their voices heard and rights respected, CASA volunteers help restore agency and stability during challenging times.
