Arbor Vista is seeking a volunteer Tech Tutor to provide technology support to residents who are interested in improving their digital skills. The volunteer will assist residents with questions related to cell phones, tablets, laptops, smart watches, and other common digital tools.
Sessions will take place during the 1st and 3rd weeks of the month. Sessions may be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays at 2:00 PM, depending on volunteer availability and resident needs. Each session will last approximately 1 hour. Scheduling is negotiable. Visitor parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Reports to:
Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator
Goal of Position:
To help residents build confidence using technology, troubleshoot common issues, access information, and use digital tools more independently in their daily lives.
Specific Tasks:
- Assess residents’ technology needs and tailor support to their interests and skill levels.
- Provide one-on-one technology assistance with cell phones, tablets, laptops, smart watches, and other digital tools.
- Answer residents’ questions clearly and help them develop basic troubleshooting skills.
- Support residents in learning how to use their devices more independently over time.
- Manage multiple requests on a first-come, first-served basis when needed.
- Offer simple lessons or demonstrations based on resident interests.
- Remain patient and supportive of residents with limited technology experience.
- Monitor attendance and ensure all participating residents sign the sign-in sheet.
- Communicate any material, equipment, or support needs to the Volunteer Coordinator or Service Coordinator.
Qualifications:
Physical/Age Requirements:
- Able to sit, stand, and move around the room during sessions.
- Able to communicate clearly and patiently with residents.
Skills/Education/Experience:
- Strong general knowledge of cell phones, tablets, laptops, smart watches, and common digital tools.
- Ability to explain technology concepts clearly and simply.
- Friendly, patient, dependable, open-minded, and solution oriented.
- Comfortable assisting residents with different skill levels and learning needs.
- Prior experience teaching, training, or providing technology support is preferred.
- Ability to speak Chinese, Russian, or Korean is strongly preferred.
