Description
Help Believe in Me strengthen governance, accountability, and strategic support for programs serving underserved youth and young people, including scholarships, community partnerships, iLevelUP, Cougs 4 Kids, and Legacy Lounge.
Volunteer Board Members provide fiduciary oversight, informed judgment, community connections, and active committee participation while respecting the boundary between governance and day-to-day management.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare for and participate in board and assigned committee meetings
- Review mission, strategy, programs, finances, risk, policies, compliance, and organizational performance
- Exercise duties of care, loyalty, and obedience in the organization’s best interests
- Disclose conflicts and recuse when required
- Support fundraising, advocacy, partnerships, or professional expertise according to approved expectations
- Protect confidential participant, personnel, donor, legal, and financial information
- Ask constructive questions and document decisions through approved governance processes
- Complete orientation and ongoing governance, safeguarding, and compliance training
- Avoid directing staff, promising funding, representing the board without authority, or using the role for personal benefit
Qualifications:
- Commitment to Believe in Me’s mission and willingness to serve the full board term
- Governance, finance, legal, education, youth programs, technology, fundraising, community, human resources, or other relevant experience
- Sound judgment, integrity, preparation, collaboration, and constructive communication
- Ability to meet attendance, committee, disclosure, confidentiality, and fundraising expectations
- At least 25 years old and willing to complete background and reference checks
This is a remote governance role available within the United States, with virtual meetings and occasional optional Seattle activities. Expect approximately 4–8 hours per month.
