    Description

    Organization: Shy 38 Inc. Kansas Farm Sanctuary

    Location: Lawrence, KS (remote tasks possible with some in-person coordination preferred)

    Position Summary

    The Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in helping Shy 38 Inc. fulfill its mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and providing lifelong sanctuary for farmed animals. This person will organize and oversee volunteer efforts, ensuring that both the sanctuary’s needs and the volunteers’ experiences are positive, efficient, and rewarding.

    Preferred Experience & Skills

    Prior experience coordinating volunteers, managing schedules, or leading groups (nonprofit or community event experience a plus).

    Strong organizational and communication skills (written and verbal).

    Comfort with email, scheduling tools, and social media or volunteer management platforms.

    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Compassionate, reliable, and committed to Shy 38’s mission of animal care, education, and outreach.

    Responsibilities

    Recruit, onboard, and train new volunteers (assist with applications, waivers, orientations).

    Schedule volunteers for animal care shifts, workdays, events, and outreach activities.

    Maintain clear records of volunteer hours and roles.

    Communicate regularly with volunteers about upcoming needs, events, and opportunities.

    Help recognize and appreciate volunteer contributions.

    Work closely with the Founder and team to identify areas where volunteers can best support the sanctuary.

    Support volunteer retention by creating a welcoming, inclusive, and positive experience.

    Time Commitment

    Flexible schedule; estimated 3–6 hours per week.

    Combination of remote work (emails, scheduling, communications) and occasional on-site presence during events or volunteer days.
