Become a CASA Volunteer: Be a Consistent Advocate for a Child in Foster Care
Details
Description
When a child enters foster care, their world can quickly become filled with new people, unfamiliar places, court hearings, meetings, and decisions about their future. In the middle of all that change, a CASA volunteer can be a consistent presence—someone who gets to know the child, pays attention to their needs, asks questions, and advocates for their best interests.
Hall-Dawson CASA is looking for compassionate community members to become Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers for children experiencing foster care in Hall and Dawson Counties.
You don’t need a background in law, social work, or child welfare to become a CASA. Our volunteers come from all walks of life. What matters most is a willingness to listen, learn, follow through, and show up for a child who needs someone in their corner.
What does a CASA volunteer do?
After completing training and being sworn in by the court, CASA volunteers are appointed to a child’s case. As a CASA, you may:
- Build a consistent relationship with the child
- Connect with caregivers, teachers, caseworkers, family members, and others involved in the child’s life
- Gather information and ask questions about the child’s needs and well-being
- Follow up on important needs related to education, health, stability, and permanency
- Provide the court with an independent perspective and recommendations focused on the child’s best interests
- Remain a consistent advocate as the child moves through the foster care system
You won’t do this work alone. Every CASA volunteer receives training and is paired with a CASA supervisor who provides ongoing guidance and support throughout the case.
Who can become a CASA?
You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t have to be an expert. You simply need to be willing to learn, ask questions, and care about what happens next for a child.
If you are dependable, compassionate, curious, and willing to speak up when something important may be overlooked, CASA could be a meaningful way to use your time and voice.
Your experience matters. Your perspective matters. Your voice can matter in the life of a child.
