    Description

At The Brisben Center, we believe that sharing a warm, nutritious meal is one of the most powerful ways to show care and build community. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals, families, or community groups to prepare and serve meals for our residents. As a Community Meal Provider, you aren't just filling plates—you are providing comfort, dignity, and a bright spot in our residents' day as they work toward housing stability.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Menu Planning & Preparation: Plan a balanced, hearty meal for our shelter residents (we will provide you with the current headcount). Meals can be purchased and brought in, or cooked right in our shelter kitchen.
    • Serving with Warmth: Set up the serving line and portion out meals to residents. This is a wonderful time to offer a smile, a kind word, and a welcoming presence.
    • Food Safety & Hygiene: Strictly adhere to our food safety protocols. This includes wearing provided gloves/hairnets during service.

    What We Are Looking For

    • A Welcoming Spirit: You approach residents with empathy, respect, and a lack of judgment. You understand that a friendly interaction is just as important as the food itself.
    • Reliability: Our residents depend on these meals. If you sign up for a slot, we are counting on you to arrive on time and ready to serve.
    • Groups & Individuals Welcome: This is a fantastic opportunity for church groups, corporate teams, book clubs, or groups of friends (groups of 4-6 people are usually perfect for a dinner service!).
      • Don't have a group? No problem! We happily welcome individual volunteers. If you're new to our kitchen, you are welcome to come in and shadow a current, experienced group to learn the ropes. Alternatively, we can pair you up with other individual volunteers to form a brand-new serving team. Individuals are welcome to use donated food in our kitchen to prepare meals.
