    Baby Bird Feeding Program Lead (Volunteer)

    Position Overview

    The Baby Bird Feeding Program Lead is a dedicated volunteer responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the nonprofit’s baby bird feeding and care program. This role ensures that orphaned and injured nestlings receive proper nutrition, safe handling, and attentive monitoring in alignment with wildlife rehabilitation best practices. The Program Lead coordinates volunteers, maintains feeding schedules, and supports positive outcomes for birds in care until they are ready for the next stage of rehabilitation.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Oversight

    • Coordinate and supervise daily feeding schedules for nestling and fledgling birds
    • Ensure proper formula preparation, food safety, and sanitation protocols
    • Monitor bird health, weight gain, and behavior, reporting concerns promptly
    • Maintain accurate feeding and care logs

    Volunteer Coordination

    • Train and mentor feeding volunteers on proper handling and feeding techniques
    • Create and manage volunteer schedules to ensure adequate coverage
    • Provide ongoing guidance, feedback, and support

    Compliance & Best Practices

    • Ensure all care practices follow wildlife rehabilitation standards and nonprofit policies
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of feeding stations and supplies
    • Assist with supply inventory and communicate needs to program management

    Collaboration

    • Work closely with wildlife rehabilitators, veterinary partners, and program staff
    • Participate in team meetings and contribute to program improvements

    Qualifications

    • Passion for wildlife conservation and animal welfare
    • Prior experience with bird care, wildlife rehabilitation, veterinary assisting, or animal husbandry preferred (or willingness to learn!)
    • Strong organizational and leadership skills
    • Ability to follow detailed feeding and care protocols
    • Comfort handling small, delicate animals
    • Reliable, dependable, and able to commit to a consistent schedule
    • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

    Time Commitment

    • Minimum commitment of 3 months during peak baby bird season
    • Approximately 20-25 hours per week
