    Description

Love New York City? Love helping people have the trip of a lifetime? We have a volunteer position for you!

What we do: Big Apple Greeter is a not-for-profit program that pairs visitors to New York City with New Yorkers--or Greeters -- for informal, unscripted walks through NYC neighborhoods. Greeters are not tour guides, but locals who show visitors around like a friend or family member would.

For Greeter/visitor experiences to be successful, it’s essential that the logistics of the Greet go smoothly.

The role: Big Apple Greeter is looking for a Visitor-Greeter Liaison. This is a people-centered role that combines relationship building and logistics -- part matchmaker, part travel agent. The Liaison manages Greet logistics from our Lower Manhattan office using our proprietary software and their people skills.

    Responsibilities:

    • Get to know our Greeters to match them with visitors based on the Greeters’ areas of knowledge and the visitors’ interests
    • Enter or edit information such as date, time, and place about a scheduled Greet into our proprietary database (training will be provided)
    • Reach out to visitors and Greeters via phone, text, WhatsApp, or email
    • Troubleshoot scheduling problems
    • Send confirmation emails to both visitors and Greeters regarding the logistics of the Greet
    • General problem solving and other related tasks as needed

    Qualifications:

    • Friendly, articulate, and patient, with a genuine desire to keep our Greeters happy and visitors satisfied with their Greet
    • Very comfortable speaking with people over the phone. This will include our Greeters and NYC visitors, some of whom may be from another country
    • Must be able to learn new software. Training in our unique database software will be provided
    • Being detail-oriented is a must; being a multi-tasker and fast learner are pluses
    • Must be willing to work onsite in our Lower Manhattan office 2 days a week for at least a few hours a day
    • Can make a minimum of an 8-month commitment, with a preference for those who can commit for longer

This position is a great fit for you if you:

    • Are a people-person who likes communicating with others who have a broad range of experiences and personalities
    • Love New York City and are enthusiastic about our mission of connecting New Yorkers with visitors for unforgettable experiences
    • Take pride in making a significant contribution to a non-profit organization's goals
    • Would enjoy working in a beautiful historic building with a friendly and dedicated staff
