    Human Resources Volunteer Coordinator

    Special note-- volunteers for this position must live in the United States and speak clear English.

    Position Description

    Under the supervision of the Founder/ Director and/or office manager or other staff member, provide human resource services to NHEG. All delegated tasks must be conducted online under the supervision of New Heights Educational Group staff or at the NHEG office or other locations designated and agreed upon by all parties. Some of the typical job duties will consist of the following: plan and coordinate workforce to best use employees' talents, link an organization's management with its personnel, administer personnel services, advise managers on organizational policies, such as equal employment opportunity and sexual harassment, coordinate and supervise the work of specialists and support staff, oversee an organization's recruitment, interview, selection, and hiring processes, handle staffing issues, such as mediating disputes and directing disciplinary procedures.

    Candidates need a combination of education and several years of related

    Training

    All new human resource coordinators must participate in an information training session.

    • Absences & Punctuality

    Please respond to emails within 48 hours. If you will be absent for an extensive period of time, please notify your Director as soon as possible.

    HRCs schedules are arranged by the HRC and NHEG.

    HRC is a non-paid, voluntary position.

    • Communications

    Please respond to all email communications within 48 hours.

    • HRC Work Area & Atmosphere

    Note: This applies to local HRCs only. Please help us keep all work spaces and meeting locations clean and quiet. It is essential that noise be kept to a minimum.

    • Behavior

    Conduct yourself in a professional manner and be aware of your communication skills, language, and behavior. All clients and staff need to be treated with respect and dignity. Failure to do so will impact your status as an HRC.

    Supply (Soft/Hard) Maintenance

    Whenever possible, NHEG seeks to provide HRCs with necessary supplies or equipment. Any special needs should be brought to the attention of NHEG staff.

    Dress & Grooming

    Note: This applies to local HRCs only. While we do not have a "dress code" we do expect you to dress appropriately for the position. Avoid "dressing to distract." Personal hygiene is important since you may be working in close quarters with clients.

    Evaluations

    Your performance as an HRC will be evaluated in the first two weeks of starting and monthly thereafter. Any concerns regarding your evaluation will be discussed with you and appropriate recommendations will be made. Evaluations will also be used to determine your continuing status as an HRC as well as outline areas of needed improvement.

    The HRC’s Rights

    • Every HRC has the right to be treated with respect by the NHEG staff members and students. When a problem arises, all staff members will treat it with confidentiality and fairness.
    • Every HRC has the right to learn effective HRC techniques. Therefore, training will be required for HRCs so that they will have the ability and confidence to know how to help their client(s) learn.
    • Every HRC has the right to be treated as a peer-HRC and not be expected to be an instructor.
    • Every HRC has the right to begin on time. When a client is repeatedly tardy or does not show for the sessions, the HRC has the right to drop that client.
    • Every HRC has the right to complete work without interruption.
    • Every HRC has the right to say "I don't know." The HRC should feel free to seek additional information or assistance in order to better serve the client.
    • Every HRC has the right to ask for help in the instructing/information gathering needs of their client regarding any problem.
    • HRCs will not talk "over" the head of the clients; you will practice patience by allowing the client time to think about and form answers to questions, will use positive reinforcement (acknowledge successes) without being condescending, and encourage the client's desire to be an independent learner.

    The Employee/Volunteer’s Rights

    • Every employee/volunteer has the right to be treated with respect by NHEG office staff. No employee/volunteer will be made to feel embarrassed about seeking assistance. You will be treated courteously, fairly and with respect.
    • Every employee/volunteer has the right to be assisted.
    • Every employee/volunteer has the right not to have his/her intellect or motivation questioned by an NHEG administrator or have his/her strengths and weaknesses compared to other employee/volunteers.
    • Every employee/volunteer has the right to a trustworthy HRC who is knowledgeable in the subject being advised and trained in necessary effective techniques.
    • Every employee/volunteer has the right to the attention of the HRC for the entire session without interruptions. Therefore, it is required that cell phones be silenced and not answered and friends not visit or sit with an HRC or clients during a session. Only in the event of emergencies might the session be interrupted.
