    Description

    Short-Term Strategic Advisory Engagement |

    About Community, Serve Us

Community, Serve Us is building a social-impact platform that brings together community voices, storytelling, technology, and crowdsourced solutions to help address today’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. Our goal is to make it easier for people to explore complex issues, share ideas, connect with resources, and turn community-driven solutions into action.

As we continue developing our platform, we’re looking for an experienced Information Architect to help us evaluate and strengthen how our content, features, and user journeys are organized.

    The Opportunity

We’re seeking a senior-level Information Architect with a strong track record of designing intuitive, scalable digital experiences. This is a focused, short-term volunteer partnership for someone who can bring a fresh, expert perspective to our existing site architecture and help us make the platform easier to navigate, understand, and use.

You’ll work directly with our leadership team to review our current information architecture, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend practical changes that support our users and long-term platform vision.

    What You’ll Do

    • Review our existing site map and information architecture, including navigation, content hierarchy, taxonomy, terminology, and relationships between platform features.
    • Evaluate the user experience from the perspective of our diverse audiences, including everyday citizens, nonprofits, community organizations, experts, and community leaders.
    • Identify navigation challenges, content overlaps, gaps, and opportunities to simplify the user experience.
    • Assess how our current and planned features fit together, including storytelling, community discussions, crowdsourced ideas, and resource connections.
    • Recommend improvements to site structure, navigation, labeling, and user pathways that make the platform more intuitive and easier to explore.
    • Provide strategic guidance on organizing content and features in a way that can scale as the platform grows.
    • Deliver actionable recommendations, which may include a revised site map, navigation structure, taxonomy, or other documentation appropriate to the scope of the engagement.

    What We’re Looking For

    • Significant experience in information architecture, UX strategy, digital product design, or a closely related discipline.
    • Demonstrated expertise developing and improving site maps, navigation systems, taxonomies, content hierarchies, and complex digital platforms.
    • The ability to quickly understand an existing product, identify structural issues, and translate findings into clear, practical recommendations.
    • Strong systems thinking and an understanding of how information architecture influences usability, discoverability, engagement, and scalability.
    • A collaborative approach and the ability to communicate complex recommendations clearly to a cross-functional team.
    • An interest in using technology and community participation to address social challenges is a plus.

    Time Commitment & Engagement

This is a short-term, project-based volunteer engagement, not an ongoing role. The scope and timeline will be agreed upon together, with the goal of making the best use of your expertise while respecting your time.

We’re looking for someone who can provide focused strategic input, collaborate with our leadership team, and leave us with a clear path toward improving our information architecture.

    Why Get Involved?

Your expertise will help shape a platform designed to connect people, ideas, organizations, and resources in new ways. This is an opportunity to apply your experience to a mission-driven initiative, influence an evolving digital product, and help create a more intuitive experience for people working to make a difference in their communities.

Interested in helping us build a more connected, accessible, and impactful platform? We’d love to hear from you.
