The Texas Railway Preservation Association (TRPA) is seeking a visionary Chief Financial Officer (CFO) & Board Accountant to join our executive leadership team. As we transition from our foundational "Apple Garage" phase into a major sector institution, we require a high-fidelity financial strategist to oversee the capital requirements of the SP 982 restoration and our future headquarters development.
This is a pro-bono executive role for a finance professional who wants to be credited with the fiscal birth of a world-class cultural landmark. You will not just be "doing the books"; you will be architecting the financial ecosystem that allows industrial history to return to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Fiscal Governance: Act as the primary financial advisor to the Board of Directors and the Executive Director, ensuring all operations align with long-term sustainability goals.
- Fund Accounting & Oversight: Manage the specialized accounting requirements of a 501(c)(3), including restricted fund tracking for specific restoration projects (e.g., boiler work, site acquisition).
- Capital Strategy: Collaborate with the Director of Institutional Advancement to ensure grant-funded projects meet strict compliance and reporting standards.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare high-level monthly briefings and annual financial statements that demonstrate institutional progress to our corporate partners and donors.
- Audit & Tax Readiness: Oversee the preparation of IRS Form 990 and ensure the Association remains in "Industrial-Grade" standing with all regulatory bodies.
Professional Requirements
- Financial Pedigree: CPA or equivalent experience in corporate finance or non-profit accounting is highly preferred.
- Systems Proficiency: Mastery of fund accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks for Nonprofits, Sage Intacct) and AI-driven financial tools.
- Strategic Clarity: The ability to translate complex financial data into actionable layman’s terms for the board and the public.
- Integrity: A commitment to the highest standards of transparency and fiduciary responsibility.
- Mission Alignment: A genuine belief in the power of industrial preservation and the drive to see the TRPA vision reach its full operational potential.
The TRPA Advantage
This position offers a rare opportunity to define the financial DNA of a rising institution. You will provide the "fuel" for the engine, ensuring that the industrial power of Texas railroading is preserved for generations to come.
