We are seeking volunteers to accompany older adults to their medical appointments to reduce anxiety and ensure they get there and back safely. Most appointments do not require a car!
Many older adults delay non-emergency medical care when they don’t have someone they trust to go with them. Medical escorts increase vital access to health care, and volunteers get to view the healthcare system from the patient’s perspective. We serve elders living in Boston, Brookline, and Newton. Choose the location that works best for you!
To volunteer: please complete a short volunteer application online. https://fw4elders.org/get-involved/volunteer-application.html
All appointments are in-person, and volunteers should have at least a 3 hour block of daytime availability during the week, Monday through Friday, and must be 18+.
FriendshipWorks was founded in 1984 to help reduce social isolation, enhance the quality of life, and preserve the dignity of older adults in Greater Boston. This work is accomplished by recruiting volunteers of all ages, faiths, and backgrounds who provide friendship, advocacy, education, assistance, and emotional support. Volunteers are critical to helping address the serious health risks posed by social isolation in the elder community. In turn, you are rewarded with new connections, and the satisfaction of assisting someone in need. The beauty is in both the giving and receiving at FriendshipWorks.
