    Description

Volunteer Opportunities – Tapestry of Black Voices Awards (Multiple Roles)

    About the Project

The Tapestry of Black Voices Awards (TBVA) is a Juneteenth-centered, no-cost, community storytelling initiative presented by Conversations in Color, a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting and preserving Black voices through dialogue.

The Awards honor everyday stories shared through short, recorded conversations that reflect lived experience, culture, creativity, and community life. Submissions are reviewed and celebrated during a virtual Juneteenth awards experience in June 2026.

Volunteer opportunities are available across multiple phases, including early community outreach, submission support, and the Juneteenth virtual awards experience. Participation in the Awards is free, and volunteers play a vital role in helping ensure access, awareness, and inclusion across communities.

Volunteer Roles Available (Choose One or More)

Volunteers are invited to self-select the role(s) that best match their interests, skills, and availability.

    Conversation Ambassadors

Support and encourage community members to submit short recorded conversations.

    • Share submission information within your network
    • Help participants feel comfortable with the process
    • Optionally host or facilitate 1–3 conversations

    Community Outreach Volunteers

Help build awareness and relationships well before the submission period.

    • Share TBVA information with organizations, campuses, churches, and community networks
    • Support early outreach using provided materials
    • Help connect TBVA with new communities and partners

This role begins well in advance of the submission window and focuses on early awareness-building and relationship outreach.

    Virtual Event Support Volunteers

Assist during the Juneteenth virtual awards celebration (June only).

    • Chat moderation
    • Tech and attendee support
    • Behind-the-scenes livestream assistance

No prior experience is required. Training and guidance will be provided.

    • Flexible and volunteer-friendly
    • Community Outreach and Ambassador roles begin on a rolling basis
    • Submission support increases during May 1–30, 2026
    • Virtual Event Support roles are June 2026 only
