Background: Native Americans and pioneers of the Midwest made syrup from the sweet sap of the maple tree. Maple trees are tapped on site and you can even try some real maple syrup! Throughout the day, sessions will take place on the history of maple syrup, the selection and tapping of trees, the gathering of sap, and the cooking of the sap to make syrup. Satisfy your maple syrup craving with a plate of fresh-off-the-skillet pancakes from the Crete Cadets. Wash them down with a warm, seasonal beverage from The Bean Wagon.
The trees aren’t just giving sap, though. This expanded event will also feature Myles Nasby demonstrating his chainsaw art skills, opportunities to learn the art of wood burning and make a sweet craft and other games and activities!
Responsibilities: Volunteers will be helping with the set-up and take-down of the event. They may also assist with cooking the sap over a fire, facilitating an activity, or cover/relieve other volunteers at a variety of stations for breaks.
