    Description

    Sustainable Construction in Africa

    Summary

Art in Tanzania incorporates traditional African construction materials into contemporary construction and interior design.

    Details

Art in Tanzania has operated since 1996. Our community placements attract approximately 250 participants each year. Our vision is to provide students with a hands-on experience working in developing African communities. In addition to your studies, you will enjoy an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience of African culture and life, along with stunning natural scenery and diverse wildlife.

Traditional African construction materials, including mud, hay, leaves, stones, and bamboo, remain widely used by low-income families.

These materials are eco-friendly and affordable. We utilise these raw African materials and traditional construction techniques in contemporary solutions, including mud-plastered walls and fences, makuti-covered roofs, sound-insulation options, and bamboo lamp shades. Additionally, we seek innovative ways to incorporate African culture into households.

The purpose of volunteering is to utilise your studies and experiences in the context of developing countries.

Work hours vary from 6 to 8 hours daily, Monday to Friday. Your program spans two weeks and 12 months, whereas internships typically last 2 to 3 months. The starting dates for placements are flexible.

Academic-level team leaders oversee your daily placement. We monitor your progress through a weekly plan and reporting system to ensure you complete your tasks on time.

We accept students year-round because all programs are ongoing. Your placement is tailored to align with your background, experience, and interests, enhancing our daily work within the communities.

The usual morning tasks include hands-on fieldwork in schools and communities, while afternoons are reserved for planning, reporting, and boosting social media visibility.

Benefits and Perks are as follows:

Accommodation and meals are personal expenses. For 1 to 13 weeks, EUR 175 per week covers accommodation, including breakfast and dinner, access to the student compound facilities, and professional tutoring. From week 14 onwards, the cost is EUR 125 per week.

The airport transfer costs EUR 60 one way and is considered a personal expense.

A charity immigration visa costs USD 50 and is considered a personal expense. A multiple-entry visa for less than 12 months is USD 250.

We provide interns with a monthly stipend of $50, which is modest but twice the national minimum wage in Tanzania.

    Flights represent a personal expense.

Local transportation, if available, is a personal expense.
