Big Apple Greeter’s mission is to enhance the worldwide image of New York City and enrich the New York experience by connecting visitors with knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteers called Greeters.
Greeters aren’t tour guides—they are neighborhood ambassadors who provide an authentic, personal welcome. Think of yourself as a visitor's “first friend” in New York.
Activities: Volunteer Greeters take small groups of 1–6 people on informal, unscripted walks through neighborhoods they know and love. As a Greeter, you will:
Qualifications:
Time Commitment: Minimum 12 Greets a year; 2–4 hours per Greet, plus travel time. You set your own schedule—Greets happen 365 days a year.
Benefits: There is a thrill in making new friends from around the world. You’ll “show off" your city, can practice language skills, and will play a vital role in keeping New York friendly and accessible.
