Description
The HeatSmart Alliance is a volunteer organization whose mission is to accelerate the adoption of energy-efficient heat pumps in Massachusetts. We focus on air- and ground-source heat pumps, heat-pump water heaters, and weatherization. Our key organizational objectives are:
- Educate residents about heat pumps through community presentations, our website, and other channels
- Provide one-on-one coaching to residents who are interested in evaluating heat pumps for their homes
- Facilitate the growth of community-based heat-pump coaching programs
- Inform local, state, and federal government policies.

How to Volunteer for This Opportunity
We offer monthly Zoom meetings featuring speakers on various topics relevant to our success. Working groups also summarize progress at monthly meetings. While there is no cost or time commitment required to become a Member, we encourage Members to engage with at least one Working Group (Coaching, Communications, Installer Relations, Operations, Organization & Membership, Policy, and Technology) and to commit to specific Working-Group activities as their schedule and interests permit.
No prior technical knowledge of heat pumps is needed—just a passion for helping to limit the impacts of climate change through decarbonization of our building stock. While we are Massachusetts-focused, we assist other U.S.-based organizations and communities as time permits.
