    Description

🌟 Help Nourish Our Neighborhood! Monthly Food Distribution Volunteers Needed

Make a Tangible Impact in Highgrove! Last year, Family Service Association (FSA) served over one million meals to families and seniors in our community. We simply cannot reach those numbers—or support those families—without the dedication of volunteers like you.

We are looking for reliable, compassionate community champions to join us at the Norton Younglove Community Center for our monthly Food Distribution. By giving just a few hours of your time, you will directly put essential food into the hands of those who need it most.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Sort & Package: Assist with the organization of fresh commodities and efficiently prepare food packages for distribution.
    • Client Engagement: Greet community members warmly, guide them through the pickup process, and provide excellent, empathetic service.
    • Site Management: Help maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for both clients and fellow volunteers.
    • Health & Safety: Strictly follow all provided health and safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of the community.

    Qualifications & Requirements:

    • Dependability: Because this is a critical monthly service, consistent and reliable attendance on the 4th Friday of the month is highly valued.
    • Physical Ability: Must be able to comfortably stand, sort items, and safely lift up to 30 lbs.
    • Attitude: A friendly, caring demeanor and a genuine desire to help others.
    • Age: Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.
    • Clearance: All volunteers must complete a background check and attend a brief orientation prior to starting.

    Next Steps for Interested Volunteers

We are so excited that you’re interested in joining our team! Once you click "I Want to Help" on Idealist, here is what you can expect:

    • Initial Outreach: After we receive your interest, we will reach out via Idealist message to confirm your availability for the upcoming 4th Friday of the month.
    • The "Welcome" Call: We encourage all interested volunteers to have a brief 5-minute phone chat with our Site Supervisor, Leila Santamaria, at (951) 241-7221. This helps us get to know you and answer any specific questions you have about the distribution flow.
    • Requirements: Please be prepared to complete a standard background check and a short orientation. This ensures the safety and comfort of our seniors and community members.
    • Arrival Info: On the day of the event, please plan to wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and bring a reusable water bottle. We’ll provide the training and the vest!

A Note on Reliability: Our USDA Food Program is a vital lifeline for the Highgrove community. Because we only have 5 volunteer spots per month, we truly value candidates who can commit to their scheduled shift. If you can't make it, just let us know in advance so we can offer the spot to another neighbor!

We look forward to meeting you and serving our community together!
